Shiloh

Joshua 18:1

The conquest of Canaan was mostly complete, so the religious center of Israel was moved from Gilgal to a more central location, Shiloh—the tabernacle's first permanent site. The tabernacle remained there for several hundred years, throughout the period of the judges, until it was destroyed by the Philistines (1 Sam. 4—5). The fact that worship was centralized at Shiloh did not inspire greater obedience among the Israelites. Psalm 78:60 states that God "forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh" because of the wickedness and idolatry that took place there.
