Prosperity: The Danger Zone

Joshua 23:6-16

This was a precarious moment for Israel: they had stayed true to the Lord when they had to depend on Him to fight their battles, but now they were entering a time of peace and prosperity. In order for them to survive spiritually during this season of tranquility, they had to keep their perspective clear in three areas: the Word of God ("the Book of Law of Moses"; 23:6, 7), the worship of God—keeping Him as their first love (23:8–11), and the world around them (23:12–16).

The most dangerous time in the life of any individual, nation, or family is not the time of challenge or conflict (for those who battle together are often united and industrious) but rather, times of ease. That is when we can easily forget how much we need God and begin to rely instead on our own judgment.
